The main pyrite mining area in Guangdong is located in Yunfu area, and Yunfu pyrite is also the largest pyrite mine in China. The terrain of the mining area is high in the West and low in the East, high in the north and low in the south, and inclined from northwest to Southeast.
The topography of the mining area is affected by the Luoding Yunfu fault metamorphic belt. The outcrops of the mountain top of the mining area are mainly the middle upper Devonian system, metamorphic rock series, the lower Jurassic sandstone overlying it and the tertiary (Neogene) biogas iron ore. In addition to the outcrop, most of the mountain and hillside surfaces are sedimentary rocks such as clastic rocks, clay rocks and carbonate rocks, which are formed by physical processes such as regional metamorphism and contact metamorphism. There are thick sediments of ancient river bed in the lower part of the mountain deposits in Gaofeng area, with the thickness of 5-15m, and the water level is 1-3m away from the surface.
The mining area is located in the south of Tropic of cancer, belonging to the subtropical monsoon rainy climate zone, with abundant heat, abundant rainfall, heavy rain, thunderstorm, gale, typhoon and other disastrous weather.
